The architecture of a building cannot be designed until the purpose of the interior is established. The interior is where the interactions between people and spaces occur, therefore the interior is a vital forethought in the process of building design. The exterior must then be designed to suit the interiors purpose. Interior design not only caters for the interactions that will occur, it influences them.
